Fantasy Football League to Reach Men

Maranatha Fantasy Football League has grown from a handful of guys seven years ago to 90 participants for this season. Through this primarily men-focused outreach and ministry, we have seen men on the fringes or even non-attenders get connected to other men in the church and ultimately connect more deeply to God's purpose.

In addition to the game, we hold an annual tailgate party, Super Bowl party, and offer a league website to keep everyone up to speed on the now 10 different leagues hosted by Yahoo Sports. If you have a few football fans in your church, you can make this happen...

Hey Kansas Minister Friend!

Have you had or found any effective ministry ideas in the past year? If so, I need your help. If not, you might need my help!

If you attended Ministers’ Renewal last year, you probably have good memories of the Idea Share Session that occurred Wednesday morning. Light bulbs went on in people’s minds all over the place. (So did red stress balls when people exceeded their time limit!) You probably remember some of the ideas: The Biggest Loser. How to start a blog. 2x3 foot posters for about $10, etc. You can still see the ideas here.

We are expecting this year’s Idea Share Session to be even more beneficial. We do not need input just to fill up time during a scheduled session at a District event. We need your well sharpened ministry idea to encourage, strengthen, and empower your fellow ministers.

At this Ministers Renewal would you be willing to share a practical idea you have used to inspire other ministers? (Original or “borrowed” makes no difference.) If it worked (is working) for you, it can probably help the rest of us!

This is how the Renewal session will lay out: 60 minutes of 2-3 minute segments of 10-12 ministers sharing one of their best practical ministry ideas with a group of stressed out, overworked, limited resourced ministers. What one practical idea would you like to tell this group of pastors and do it in 2-3 minutes?

Idea guidelines

• Practical à don’t tell us to pray, tell us how you practically get people to pray

• Doable à will work in varied settings

• Tangible à something they can get their hands on (i.e. notes, video clip, contact phone number, FAQ)

• Quick à if you go over 3 minutes, bad things may happen J

Here are some questions to get you going:

• What are you doing that is working really good that you would love to tell other pastors?

• What is a sermon series that rocked?

• What is your best specific sermon illustration – physical, video, story, etc.

• What is a ministry computer solution that you wouldn’t live without?

• What is an outreach event that you do that works?

• What are some organization methods that without them would cause you to unravel?

• What methods do you use for volunteer recruitment and staffing?

• How have you increased missions giving?

• What is an amazing Bible Study tool you use?

• How are you doing congregational communication – email, blog, newsletter, etc.

• What great source have you found and used for _________________________?

• What is a special event that rocks for your church?

• What effective Special Day promotions? Easter, Mothers Day, Fathers Day

• What is working for you concerning Visitor assimilation?

• What have you done for church promotion/marketing/creating a buzz?

• How have you greatly increased visitor flow?

This year’s Renewal is September 15-17 so please let me hear from you soon. As you can tell, I have a limited amount of time for the session but will utilize as many of these practical ideas as time allows.

Here’s how to contact me:

Uses a "scoresheet" to track how well the church is staying on track with their core values.

2ft x 3ft color prints - cheap

http://www.shortrunposters.com/

Kent Duncan - kent_duncan@yahoo.com

Great spot for large (24"X36"), inexpensive ($2/each, I think, plus flat rate shipping for the whole order) poster-prints. We post candid oversized photos of our own people in the youth and children's areas, especially. You could do the same with pics from church activities, local community events, stuff like that.

* Kent was unable to attend, but sent a great idea anyway!

CORRECTION: the print outs are now 18x24, not 24x36. Still a great deal though!
